A Long History of Serving the Community
1844

The Young Men's Christian Association is formed by George Williams in London, England

1851

The first YMCA in America (Boston, Massachusetts) is formed by Thomas Sullivan

1932

Hi-Y Clubs were begun in Quakertown, Perkasie and Sellersville

1943

Tri-Hi-Y Clubs, same sites as above, were begun in conjunction with the Allentown and Bethlehem YMCA's

1964–1965

Talk to incorporate and become the Quakertown YMCA with a YMCA headquarters established at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church at 5th and Broad Streets In Quakertown

1968

June 20 – Articles of Incorporation were reviewed and approved by the YMCA board of Directors

September 5 – Upper Bucks Young Men's Christian Association was incorporated as a non-profit business

1969

Episcopal Church property was sold. YMCA office is moved to storefront operation at 3rd and Branch Streets, Quakertown

1970

Settlement on site at 14th Street and Park Avenue (previously the library and American Legion post)

1972

January 29 – Groundbreaking ceremony for new YMCA addition to 14th Street building

1973

Pool addition to 14th Street building is completed

1981

Racquetball addition to 14th Street building is completed

1984

Defunct Quaker Valley Tennis Club building located on California Road and Penn Am Drive is purchased by YMCA to be used as new Sports Center complex

1993

Upper Bucks YMCA celebrates its 25th anniversary

2008

November 15 – new facility at 401 Fairview Avenue, Quakertown, opens with wellness, gymnastics, teen, babysitting centers, and full gymnasium. Sports Center on California Road is sold.

2009

June 21 – New family and competition pool opens
